The Shanghai Sports Museum is located in the Sports Building at 150 Nanjing West Road. Its original site is the Foreign YMCA Building built in 1928. The museum is open to the public free of charge. It is a comprehensive sports museum with the purpose of ‘inheriting sports culture and promoting sports spirit’. It will strive to become a public sports cultural space and urban sports cultural coordinate with Shanghai-style characteristics.


The museum has four permanent themed exhibition halls: ‘The Boat of History’, ‘The Light of Olympics’, ‘The City of Vitality’, and ‘The Window of Future’. The exhibition area is nearly 2,000 square meters, with more than 2,000 exhibits on display. It also has functions such as VR interactive experience, movie viewing, light shows, and information query. In 2022, the Shanghai Sports Museum was rated as ‘the first batch of national sports science popularization bases’ and was selected into the high-quality promotion (physical exhibition) of the Shanghai Museum Exhibition Boutique Promotion Activity.


Opening hours: closed all day on Mondays throughout the year; open from 09:30 to 16:30 from Tuesdays to Sundays throughout the year; open from 09:30 to 16:30 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Tomb Sweeping Day, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
