The story of the ballet ‘Peacock’ revolves around the eternal themes of life and love, depicting universal human emotions through stage performance, conveying the artist’s personal reflections on art and life during her growth. The ‘peacock’ in the play is a bird, a person, and all sentient beings in the world of emotions. Divided into four chapters—Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter—the narrative tells a story about growth, humanity, life, and love, as well as the interconnection between life and nature. Post-show review by Feng Shuangbai, Chairman of the China Dancers Association: ‘Yang Liping’s new version of ‘Peacock’ is extremely poetic. Its clear artistic structure, the atmospheric stage art realm filled with the breath of the forest, and the ingenious dance art methods present an audience with a natural tragedy and comedy of love, envy, jealousy, hatred, killing, death, and rebirth through nirvana. The success of the new ‘Peacock’ provides an excellent sample for the development history of contemporary Chinese dance thought. The 2022 new version of the ballet ‘Peacock’ once again refreshed people’s understanding of the ballet form, allowing them to appreciate the immense charm of Yang Liping’s art.For Chinese dance to stand independently in the forest of world national arts, it has established an internationally artistic image that is easy to spread and has the significance of exchanges and mutual learning among human civilizations.
