The exhibition showcases twenty-one works by artist Geng Xue, created between 2019 and 2024, with half being retrospective and half from the last two years. The theme of ‘woman’ consistently runs through various periods of the artist’s creations. The women depicted by Geng Xue carry a unique essence of traditional Eastern femininity, with their graceful and restrained forms. At first glance, one is met with an almost extreme tranquility in the subjects, serene and imbued with a sense of transcending reality. As one’s gaze shifts between several pieces, a sense of time and space being frozen envelops the viewer, slowing down our senses. Each image seems to transport one into a vacuum-sealed room, with the dynamic and body in a focused state of pause, conveyed through a relatively sharp and direct painting language that communicates the artist’s personal aesthetic paradigm. At this moment, the subjects seem to transcend the canvas, gradually presenting a ‘sculptural’ materiality, and the artist’s ‘simplification and generalization’ painting language is the main cause of creating this detached sculptural state. Upon closer observation, there is a fleeting flashback to the painting forms of the ‘Early Renaissance’, which is undoubtedly a nourishment and continuation of ‘ancient and modern’, and also the artist’s own retrospective and exploration of artistic creation. Open from 10/21 to 11/21, with specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.
