West Bund Art Museum, in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, will present the annual special exhibition ‘Avant-Garde Photography 1970-2000’ on November 8, 2024. This marks the first large-scale showcase of the Pompidou’s photography collection in China. The exhibition will review the decisive three decades of photographic art, focusing on the moments when it emerged as a mainstream medium in contemporary art. Through ten chapters, it will showcase nearly 200 pioneering works by over 30 avant-garde artists, tracing the history of photography’s evolution from a means of documenting artistic processes to an independent art form. The exhibition partner is SIGMA. The exhibition will be open from November 8th to February 16th, with specific opening hours subject to the museum’s daily schedule.
