The Shangrao Concentration Camp is located in the southern part of Shangrao city. After the New Fourth Army Incident in 1941, it was used as a prison to detain Ye Ting and captured cadres above the platoon level of the New Fourth Army. There are revolutionary martyr monuments, revolutionary martyr memorial halls, memorial pavilions and other landscapes in the scenic area. It is a famous red scenic spot and a good place for receiving red education. The currently open scenic area is divided into five major visiting areas: the revolutionary martyr cemetery area, the former site area of Maojialing Prison, the former site area of Zhoutian Prison, the former site area of Licun Prison, and the former site area of Qifengyan Prison. Among them, the former site of Maojialing Prison and the revolutionary martyr cemetery are the central areas for sightseeing. The other few are scattered in the surrounding area of 2 square kilometers. There are fewer tourists. Entering the gate of the scenic area, you can see the former site of Maojialing Prison. In the torture room, some torture instruments are displayed, such as hemp ropes, tiger stools, and tools for live burial. Even if you don’t know the history, seeing these cruel torture instruments will inevitably make your mood heavy. The former site is not large and can be visited in about 15 minutes. Then go to the memorial hall opposite. This is the main building of the scenic area. It is a two-story building with white walls and blue roofs built on the former site of the concentration camp. There are four exhibition halls in the museum. The graphic display, physical display and statue restoration of the scenes of that year are worth a closer look to understand history. In particular, there are many torture instruments in the concentration camp, and the degree of cruelty is unimaginable. In a torture room at the exhibition site, there are torture instruments such as tiger stools, whips, shackles and brazier irons. Some of the physical objects were unearthed from the remains of martyrs, which is very shocking.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 – 16:30 all year round; closed all day on Monday all year round.
