Shangxin Street is a shorthand for Shanghao Xin Street. Shanghao and Xiahao are also short for Shang Longmen Hao and Xia Longmen Hao, respectively. Hao, originally referring to the vastness of water, such as ‘vast and mighty’. On the southern bank of the Yangtze River, there are two rows of stone ridges protruding from the water. Between these two rows, a mouth is formed, and from that mouth, one can see the vast and mighty Yangtze River, hence it is called Haokou. The water surface on the shore side of the stone ridge is referred to as ‘Hao’. Haokou serves as the gateway for fish entering and exiting the river. Someone carved the characters ‘Dragon Gate’ on the stone, and thus this ‘Hao’ is known as Longmen Hao. Open from January 1st to December 31st, accessible all day long.
