Shangyue Ancient Residences is located in Shangyue Village, Longshan Town, Foshan County, and was originally built during the Southern Song Dynasty, flourishing in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a history of over 720 years. The entire village is built against the mountains and surrounded by water, divided into eighteen sections, with 18 fish ponds scattered throughout the village. The houses are uniformly constructed with blue bricks and black tiles, featuring carved beams and painted rafters. The ‘ear-shaped buildings’ (Wok Ear Buildings) are arranged in a staggered pattern, creating a grand and imposing presence. Antiques, grey sculptures, colored paintings, and relief wood carvings can be found everywhere, vividly embodying the distinctive Lingnan architectural art style. Shangyue Ancient Residences is currently one of the largest and best-preserved ancient villages in Guangdong. It was awarded as a ‘Guangdong Beautiful Rural Demonstration Point’ in 2006 and included in the first batch of ancient villages in Guangdong in 2008. It is now being planned and managed according to the standards of ‘China’s Historical and Cultural Villages’. The opening hours and business status are subject to the daily opening conditions.
