Introduction: The Shangzhuang Scenic Area in Jixi, Anhui is located in the ancient town of Shangzhuang, which is known as ‘Little Shanghai’, ‘Town of Culture’ and ‘Town of Yipin Pot’. It is more than 30 kilometers away from the county seat. In the scenic area, there are many cultural and natural landscapes such as Hu Shi’s former residence, Hu Tiehua’s residence, Hu Kaiwen’s former residence, which are key cultural relics protection units in Anhui Province, as well as Qipancun Village and Tianzi Tomb. There are also traditional production techniques such as inkstick making, wood carving and brick carving. In 2010, the Shangzhuang Scenic Area was promoted to a national AAA-level scenic area. Beautiful and magical Shangzhuang welcomes tourists from all directions to visit. In Shangzhuang, the ecology is beautiful and the scenery is magnificent. Since ancient times, commerce has been prosperous, culture has flourished and talents have gathered. It is one of the main birthplaces of Huizhou culture. It is a national comprehensive economic reform demonstration town, an Anhui provincial historical and cultural protection area, and a pilot town for small town construction in Anhui Province. Shangzhuang is a place of outstanding people and famous people emerge in large numbers. Hu Kaiwen, a master of Chinese inkstick making; Hu Shi, a pioneer of the New Culture Movement and a world-renowned scholar with 36 doctoral degrees; Wang Jingzhi, a Chinese lakeside poet and the author of ‘The Wind of Orchids’; Cao Chengying, the first female professor in Chinese agricultural academia; Wang Yutai, a tea tycoon… These famous people like shining stars make Shangzhuang a place of prominent cultural gathering. Shangzhuang is full of ancient charm and profound culture. For thousands of years, generations of people in Shangzhuang have built ancient villages full of cultural connotations and vitality with their own diligence and wisdom: Shangzhuang Village with extremely complete preservation of Huizhou architectural complex; Qipancun Village known as the out-of-print masterpiece of ancient Huizhou settlement culture; Zhaitan Village, the location of Guizhi Academy, the earliest academy in Anhui Province and a characteristic village in China… These unique ancient villages have accumulated magnificent cultural heritages and profound cultural connotations. The intangible cultural heritages represented by inkstick making, Huizhou cuisine, Huizhou opera, Huizhou carving and Huizhou customs are even more precious over time. Shangzhuang has a good ecology and charming scenery. It is adjacent to Dahui Mountain in the east, Huangbai’ao in the west, Guiren Peak in the south and Zhuganjian in the north. Strange peaks, grotesque rocks, secluded caves, streams and waterfalls are all over the area. There are criss-crossing rivers in the territory. The stream water is crystal clear. Flowers and plants are fragrant and mountains are surrounded by mist, just like a naturally formed landscape pastoral painting. ‘Jinshan Shiyu’, as the first tea product in Anhui Province to obtain the national geographical indication registration for agricultural products, is bred here. It won the gold medal in the famous tea competition of the 17th Shanghai International Tea Culture Festival and the high gold medal in the famous tea competition of the World Green Tea Association.
