The Shantou Zoo is located in Shantou Zhongshan Park on the Yuemei River in Shantou City. It is the only zoo in eastern Guangdong. It was first built in 1954. In 2007, with the strong support of the Shantou City Urban Management Bureau and the Garden Department, Shantou Zhongshan Park redesigned and planned the zoo. After the renovation, the zoo will be expanded by one-third, from the original 6,600 square meters to the current 11,000 square meters. The zoo has taken on a new look and at the same time increased the variety and number of animals. In January 2008, the Shantou Zoo welcomes tourists from all directions with a brand new look. Opening hours: Open all year round from 09:00 to 17:30.
