The Shaoguan Museum was established in 1961 and is a landmark building in Shaoguan. The museum houses more than 5,000 collections of various types, most of which are cultural relics of past dynasties unearthed in the city. Among them, a batch of pottery model vessels from the Eastern Han Dynasty and the Jin Dynasty are very precious. If you want to have a deeper understanding of the historical development of Shaoguan City, the Shaoguan Museum is a good choice. The gilded copper seal with tortoise knob, phoenix and peony vat, yellow glazed double-ear cup, frog cage and others are all precious cultural relics worth seeing in the museum. There are two red sandstone reliefs with local characteristics embedded in the front wall of the museum building. The relief on the left reflects the legendary story of “Emperor Shun ascending Shaoshi Mountain and playing Shao music” in ancient times. The relief on the right reflects the living scenes of “Maba Man” more than 100,000 years ago. The name of the museum, “Shaoguan Museum”, above the door wall is inscribed by Zhang Ding, a Chinese calligrapher and painter.
