Tashan is located in the southern part of Shaoxing Ancient City, passing through the antique pedestrian street in Lu Xun Street, near the intersection of Jiefang Road and Yan’an Road, you will find Tashan Park. Tashan is also known as Feilai Mountain, Baolin Mountain, Guaishan, and Guishan, among other names. According to the historical text ‘Wu Yue Chun Qiu’, after the city built by Fan Li was completed, a mountain from the sea east of Langya appeared overnight, hence the name Guaishan. It is also called Feilai Mountain and Guishan due to its shape resembling a turtle. During the Southern Dynasties, Master Hui Ji built Baolin Temple on the mountain, which is why it’s also known as Baolin Mountain. The mountain features Yingtian Tower, which is named after the renaming of Baolin Temple to Yingtian Temple during the Tang Dynasty. The current name, Tashan, is derived from the presence of Yingtian Tower. Tashan is one of the three small hills within Shaoxing Ancient City and is valued for its numerous historical sites. Authorities have renovated the area while preserving its original appearance, demolishing illegal constructions that obstruct the view, restoring Dongwu Pavilion and renovating Qingliang Temple. To facilitate visitor access, authorities have also built pavilions and corridors while improving the environment, creating a recreational area with cascading waterfalls, lush greenery, and tranquility despite its proximity to the bustling city. Yingtian Tower offers a panoramic view of the main streets of Shaoxing City, especially the southern part of the city and the southern suburbs of the ancient city. It is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
