Entering the Shawan Ancient Town area, one can clearly distinguish the historical context of the town’s development. The existing streets and alleys are crisscrossed, ancestral halls and ancient houses are dotted among them, and the eaves, beams and purlins are exquisitely decorated and carved. The ancient village pattern of ‘stone steps and stone alleys’ in Shawan Ancient Town is well preserved and a large number of ancient buildings from the Ming, Qing and Republic of China periods are retained.
