The Shenggui Grottoes are located to the north of the city center. It is said that after the Eastern Jin Dynasty general Liu Laozi defeated Sun Yong and returned victorious, he stationed his troops on the mountain, hence the name Shenggui Mountain. During the Ming Dynasty, Hu Zongxian, who was victorious in the war against Japanese pirates, also stationed his troops here on multiple occasions. To commemorate him, people carved his statue on the southern slope of the mountain, known as ‘Hu Gong Rock’. From the Ming and Qing dynasties to modern times, the carving of Buddha statues has continued, showcasing exquisite artistry. The site is open year-round from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
