The Shengjing Mountain Stone Hall is located in Danan Township, Rui’an City, Zhejiang Province. It is 794 meters above sea level. Because of a spring well in the middle of the front of the shrine’s pedestal that never overflows or dries up all year round, the water level remains unchanged, and the spring water is clear, sweet and refreshing. Hence, it is praised as the ‘Holy Well’, and the mountain is also named after the well (originally known as Qinglong Spring). All the components of the Shengjing Mountain Stone Hall are carved from stone. The furnishings in the hall are also carved from stone blocks. There is not a single piece of wood or brick in the entire hall. The stone hall was first built in 1260, the first year of Jingding in the Southern Song Dynasty. It covers an area of 410 square meters and has a construction area of 229 square meters. The existing building complex is a building from the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty to the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. It is composed of a mountain gate, a stone archway, a front hall, a main hall and left and right wing rooms. It is distributed on an east-west longitudinal axis, forming a symmetrical architectural pattern. As early as before the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, it was famous among the people for its strong religious color and gorgeous scenery. It is currently an earlier, larger-scale and well-preserved stone building complex in southern Zhejiang.
