Shengshan, historically known as Chenqian Mountain and also referred to as Jinshan. According to its inhabitants, it is the birthplace of the sun in the East China Sea. Shengshan Island has two must-see scenic spots. One is the East Cliff on Shengshan Island. The other is the fishing lights of Shengshan Fishing Port. The East Cliff is a more than 1000-meter-long winding and undulating shoreline on the eastern side of Shengshan Island. It rises abruptly from the sea, resembling a knife cut or an axe chop. Its heights range from 60-70 meters, and peaks reach over 80 meters, which is quite spectacular. Standing on top of the East Cliff, one can feel the surging waves below and the thunderous sounds, and an involuntary shiver. While gazing into the distance, the vast ocean and the scattered fishing boats bring a sense of tranquility and delight. These intertwined feelings allow one to experience the essence of island life and the maritime state of mind. The island also features one of the Shengsi Stone Scenic Spots, the ‘Lovers’ Stone’. The beach next to the Lover’s Stone is a popular swimming spot for locals during the summer.
