Shengshou Temple

Shengshou Temple is located on the slopes of Fulong Mountain in Xiayan Township, about 20 kilometers northwest of Yiwu City. The temple’s entrance is adjacent to the highway. Upon arrival, the couplet on the stone pillars beside the entrance, which reads ‘A sacred place is hard to come by, do not miss what is before your eyes; The longevity tree is limited, do not waste the beautiful scenery of a good time,’ will catch your eye clearly.

After entering the temple gate, you ascend along the stone steps, passing by the Bu Yun Pavilion, Lian Jing Pavilion, and the bell tower, until you reach the Shengshou Temple nestled in the verdant mountains.

The temple was originally built in the early Tang Dynasty. Back then, it was described as a place where ‘flying springs blow smoke and dreams, strange rocks participate in the clouds and water, the roots of withered pines remain, and the green moss of the urn tower is green.’ Due to its serene environment, celebrities and scholars such as Song Lian and Fang Xiaonu often wrote and lectured here.

Over the years, Shengshou Temple has been rebuilt multiple times after being destroyed. The current temple was reconstructed in recent years. The only historical relics left in the temple are the Yuan Dynasty Shengshou Temple stele, stone arhats, stone pillar bases, and the White Milk Spring. However, the ancient Luohan pine tree behind the temple that has come back to life after dying is a great wonder.
