The large-scale Shennong Herbal Medicine Museum has been completed in Guangzhou. Shennong, also known as Shennongshi, is the agricultural ancestor who taught humans to sow grains in Chinese folk legends. He is also the inventor of medicine who taught people to taste various herbs to treat diseases. The ‘Shennong Herbal Medicine Museum’ is located at the foot of Baiyun Mountain, a famous scenic spot in Guangzhou. It was initiated and built by Guangzhou Baiyunshan Hutchison Whampoa Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd. From the perspectives of ‘nature’ and ‘culture’, it will centrally display the essence of traditional Chinese medicine culture. There is a giant relief in the museum that is 99 meters long and 3.3 meters high. Carved on it are pictures such as Hetu Luoshu and Shennong tasting various herbs, reproducing the development history of Chinese medicine over thousands of years. The museum also plants 365 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines from all over the north and south. Among them, a lush gelsemium elegans is particularly eye-catching. Legend has it that Shennong died because he mistakenly tasted gelsemium elegans when tasting various herbs. The museum mobilized mountain people near Shennongjia to search for more than three months before finding this gelsemium elegans.
