The Shenyang Qixing Mountain Scenic Area is located within the territory of Shifo Temple Township in Shenyang. It is backed by the Liao River and connected to the south of Shenyang. The scenic area boasts beautiful natural scenery and superior environment. Qixing Mountain was formed at the end of the Jurassic period and is composed of seven peaks including the Southern Mountain and Pagoda Mountain.

The scenic area is named for its mountain shape distribution, which resembles the Big Dipper constellation. There are more than twenty gullies distributed in the mountains, such as Hu Li Da Gully. On the southern slope of Pagoda Mountain, there is a spring with clear and sweet water that flows all year round. The scenic area is rich in cultural landscapes and historical sites. It includes an ancient Liao Dynasty tower built in 1074, a stone Buddha and temple constructed by the Tuoba clan of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the site of the ‘Shuangzhou Ancient City’, and the site of Han’s Garden built during the Liao and Jin Dynasties.

Additionally, as the scenic area is backed by one of China’s four major rivers, the Liao River, it was a significant transportation and strategic location in ancient times. War relics such as the Ming border wall and beacon towers, the Liao River embankment and monument built by Zuo Bao Gui during the Qing Dynasty, and modern war bunkers are scattered throughout the scenic area. It has been praised since ancient times with the phrase ‘The tower’s shadow opens the heavy mountain fog, and the clear flute sound cools the water breeze’.

The scenic area is open all year round, 24 hours a day.
