Shenzhen Book City Central City is located on the north central axis of the central area (CBD) of Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China. It is on Fuzhong 1st Road, Futian District. It is adjacent to Lianhua Mountain in the north, Shenzhen Civic Center in the south, Shenzhen Concert Hall and Shenzhen Library in the west, and Shenzhen Children’s Palace in the east. It is the flagship store of the ‘Shenzhen Book City’ brand.
The book city includes three floors in total: basement one, mezzanine and ground floor. The basement is mainly a parking area with nearly 600 parking spaces. The ground building is divided into north and south areas. The area between Hongli Road and Fuzhong 1st Road is the ‘north area’, and the area south of Fuzhong 1st Road is the’south area’. The two areas are connected by a connector across Fuzhong 1st Road. On the east and west sides of the book city are four green cultural parks with an area of 10,000 square meters each named ‘Poetry, Calligraphy, Etiquette and Music’. In addition to the 25-meter-wide pedestrian axis on the roof of the book city, green plants are densely covered on both sides. The covering soil layer on the roof can allow lawns and trees to grow. The ground floor and mezzanine have a huge longitudinal common hall. There are longitudinally extended skylights on the roofs on both sides. In the north and south areas, there are one square and one round courtyards respectively, implying ’round heaven and square earth’. They lead directly to the sky and play the role of introducing natural light and green plant landscapes. Shenzhen Book City Central City is an experiential book city and introduces the concept of ‘Bookstore and Mall in One’ (BookMall). Nearly 20,000 square meters are planned in the hypermarket for displaying and selling publications and cultural supplies. In addition to the central bookstore, there are also characteristic stores such as ‘Humanities and Social Sciences Bookstore’ (ground floor of the north area), ‘Economic Management Bookstore’ (ground floor of the north area), ‘Art and Design Bookstore’ (ground floor of the south area), ‘Leisure Life Bookstore’ (ground floor of the north area), ‘Science and Technology Bookstore’ (basement one of the north area), ‘Music Time and Space Theme Store’ (ground floor of the north area), ‘Youth Theme Store’ (basement one of the north area), ‘Foreign Language Original Bookstore’, and ‘Starlight Reading Inn’ (ground floor of the south area) which is open 24 hours. It combines nearly 300,000 varieties of products.
