Living together in time, our lives intertwine. Loving together in time, boundless and cyclic. Suffering together in space-time, destined to meet. Missing each other in the future, never retreating. Over the span of six years, everyone has experienced different landscapes, strolling along the coastline, watching the sea together from dawn to dusk, feeling the passage of time amidst the ebb and flow of tides. Each person has their own way of responding to life, choosing to either cast themselves into the cosmos or to settle in a place to call home. Please accept this belated invitation, after a six-year hiatus, looking forward to meeting you again, to watch the sea together. After listening to the newly released EP two weeks ago, are you already eager to embark on a journey to the tour venue? Hello Nico’s ‘Let’s Watch the Sea’ ten-city tour is about to begin!
Hello Nico, formed in Taipei in 2013, consists of members from diverse backgrounds with a musical style that spans pop, electronic, and rock genres. Their music is characterized by a sense of suppression and self-indulgence, quietly singing about human emotions and hurts amidst the noise of guitar feedback and synthesized sounds, observing the inevitable contradictions and struggles in urban life. Since its establishment in 2013, the band has been carrying an astonishing creative energy, sparking discussions online with mature arrangements and abundant creativity. Their representative works ‘Desolation’ and ‘Flower’ have won multiple weeks at the top of the charts. At the end of 2013, they were selected as one of Taiwan’s ‘Top Ten New Bands’ and have been widely hailed as the most noteworthy supernova band in Taiwan. In 2014, they released their first EP ‘Floating City’, which received strong recommendations from renowned musicians like Chen Jianqi and singers like Wei Ruoxuan. With ‘Floating City’, Hello Nico won two major awards at the 8th ‘Freshmusic Awards’: ‘Best EP of the Year’ and ‘Top Ten Singles of the Year (Our Suffering Circus Troupe)’. In 2015, they released their debut album ‘Familiar Desolation’ and went on a tour, selling out the limited physical records at the tour venues before they were officially available in record stores. The band was then invited to perform in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, achieving unprecedented success. In the second half of the year, they held an eleven-stop tour, with all performances in the Pearl River Delta region, including Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, and the concert in Shanghai, selling out completely. The band later announced that they would return to Taiwan in January 2016 for four special performances in the north, central, and south, with all four performances selling out within a minute of ticket sales going live. In December 2015, at the authoritative music platform ‘Douban’s’ 5th Abilu Music Awards, Hello Nico was nominated for the ‘Best Newcomer’ award. In May 2016, Hello Nico was nominated for the 27th Golden Melody Awards [Best New Artist] with their album ‘Familiar Desolation’. They also won [Best New Group] at the 9th Freshmusic Awards. In July 2016, they released the EP ‘Close Your Eyes’ and held three thousand-person concerts in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. All three shows quickly sold out. Subsequently, the band embarked on a twelve-stop tour in the Chinese mainland and held solo concerts in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and other places for the first time. At the beginning of 2017, the EP ‘Close Your Eyes’ was nominated for [Best EP] at the 10th Freshmusic Awards in Singapore. They also won the [Annual Rock Musician] award at the 6th Abilu Music Awards. In the same year, Hello Nico was invited to participate in the famous American music festival ‘SXSW Texas South by Southwest Music Festival’. At the end of the year, they traveled far to Tokyo to participate in the ‘TIMM Music Festival’ and were invited to perform on the stage of Hong Kong’s ‘Clockenflap Music Festival’. In February 2018, they released the remixed single ‘You Are the Erased Landscape (tour mix)’, and later released two brand new singles ‘Dust of Light’ and ‘Dear Myself’, and held the ‘Slowly, and Far Away’ tour in various places. In September 2024, they released a new EP ‘Plan B: If You Come Back, Let’s Watch the Sea Together’. This EP contains the emotional energy and growth changes of the band members over the past few years. It not only presents a new look of Hello Nico but also maintains the musical power that has deeply fascinated listeners for more than ten years. When night falls and the stars dot the sea, we snuggle up together and quietly appreciate this tranquility and beauty. The sea breeze gently blows, taking away the noise and fatigue of the day and leaving only inner peace and tranquility. Looking at each other and smiling, there is no need for many words because we both understand the preciousness of this tacit understanding and companionship. I think I still don’t have the courage to tell you clearly. I am exhausted and I can no longer bloom. The light you emit shines in places where you can’t even see. Go, return, search, and evacuate. There is nowhere that is your territory to be responsible for. You are born to be loved. The suffering of love can’t wait for an antidote. Love itself is the antidote. If you come back, let’s watch the sea together. The opening time is Saturday, November 23. The performance starts at 20:00. The specific performance duration is subject to the site.
