Established in 1981, Shenzhen Museum currently operates four venues including the Historical Folklore Pavilion, the Ancient Art Pavilion, the Former Site of the Dongjiang Guerrilla Command Headquarters, and the Shenzhen Reform and Opening Exhibition Hall, with a total construction area of over 60,000 square meters. It is a large-scale museum with a total branch system, integrating collection, protection, research, display, and education. As a national first-class museum, a national red tourism classic scenic spot, and a national social science popularization base, Shenzhen Museum is a significant cultural institution.
1. The Ancient Art Pavilion is located on the north side of Shennan Avenue. Initiated in 1982, it was listed as one of the eight major cultural facilities in Shenzhen and was a key construction project. It was completed and opened to the public in November 1988. Covering an area of 37,000 square meters with a total construction area of 18,400 square meters, the exhibition building area is 8,000 square meters. The pavilion has won the ‘National Public Cultural Facility Design Second Prize’ and was recognized as one of the ‘Top Ten Historical Buildings of Shenzhen’s Reform and Opening Up’. The Ancient Art Pavilion primarily displays cultural relics related to ancient Chinese art and serves as the central hub for the collection, research, display, and education of ancient art artifacts in Shenzhen.
2. The Historical Folklore Pavilion is situated in Area A of Shenzhen Civic Center. With a land area of 12,500 square meters and a construction area of 33,600 square meters, it was completed and opened in December 2008. The exhibition building consists of three floors, including five basic displays and two special exhibition halls, with an exhibition area of over 10,000 square meters. The underground first floor is a cultural relics storage room. Additionally, the exhibition building features supporting service facilities such as a multifunctional lecture hall, VIP room, tea house, and souvenir shop.
3. The Former Site of the Dongjiang Guerrilla Command Headquarters is located at No. 13 Nanqing Street, Luohu District, covering an area of 240 square meters with a construction area of 794 square meters. This site is a protected cultural relics unit at the municipal level in Shenzhen. It was transferred to the management of Shenzhen Museum in 2012 and completed its renovation and opened to the public in December 2017.
4. The Shenzhen Reform and Opening Exhibition Hall is located at No. 184 Fuzhong Road, Futian District (4th and 5th floors, South District, Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and City Planning), with an exhibition area of 6,300 square meters. It has been open to the public since November 8, 2018. Opening hours are from January 1st to October 6th, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00; from October 9th to December 31st, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00; closed all day on Mondays during both periods; open on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, 10:00-18:00; closed all day on October 8th; open on October 7th, 10:00-18:00. Service facilities include parking lots: [Civic Square Underground Parking, Central Book City Underground Parking, or designated roadside parking spots]; luggage storage; guided tours: Groups of 20 or more visitors can book guided tours by sending a letter to Shenzhen Museum.
Please make a reservation by letter at least 3 days in advance, providing the name of the visiting group, number of people, visiting time, content of the visit, language of interpretation (Mandarin, English), and contact person and phone number. Staff will call to confirm the specific arrangements for group interpretation (based on the content of the phone contact).
Should there be any changes to the group visit, please notify in advance. Failure to notify or being 15 minutes late will be considered as giving up the reservation.
