The Shenzhen Science Museum, established in 1987, is located at the intersection of Shangbu Middle Road and Shennan Middle Road in Futian District, Shenzhen. It covers a construction area of 12,000 square meters, with a permanent science popularization exhibition and activity area of 3,000 square meters. It is one of the ‘eight cultural facilities’ invested and constructed by the city during the ‘first entrepreneurial period’ of the 20th century in Shenzhen and is also one of the earlier science popularization venues established in China, with a long history and profound cultural heritage.
Currently, the Shenzhen Science Museum has three floors of permanent exhibitions. In terms of science popularization activities, it has developed several new types of science popularization projects, including science 3D movies, electromagnetic grand stages, science performances, and parent-child laboratories. Through vivid science performances and interactive science dramas, visitors can witness phenomena caused by static electricity, such as ‘hair standing on end,’ and experience dazzling ‘artificial lightning.’ Through the performances of ‘science enthusiasts,’ profound principles are expressed in an intuitive and easy-to-understand manner, making it easier for the audience to accept and better grasp scientific knowledge, enhancing their scientific literacy.
In addition to regular exhibitions, the museum also holds special exhibitions from time to time, such as the ‘Protecting the Earth’ special science popularization exhibition, the ‘Human and Health’ special science popularization exhibition, and the ‘Protecting Water Resources’ thematic tour. Special exhibitions will be announced on the museum’s official website and Weibo before they start. The opening hours are closed all day on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the year; open from 10:00 to 17:00 on Wednesdays to Fridays throughout the year; and open from 09:30 to 17:00 on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year.
