Shiweiyan is located in Hesheng Town, northeast of Yan Tou, and is one of the must-see attractions along the Nanxi River. A solitary peak, 306 meters high, left by volcanic activity from a hundred million years ago, stands like a ship’s mast, towering over the surrounding peaks with its reddish rock changing forms at different angles. Visitors can take a boat to view the landscape or walk along the trails on the mountain’s waist, blending into the green mountains and clear waters.

The Nanxi River encircles the Shiwei Peak, and the scenic area has built a horseshoe-shaped trail along the water flow. There are two entrances, one on the west near the Xiaosanxia and Lingshan Renjia, and one on the east near Shiwei Peak, separated by a distance of 5 kilometers. The entire scenic area takes about 3 hours to walk one way, so self-driving tourists usually park their cars at one entrance and take a taxi back after the tour, avoiding the return path.

If taking a taxi, it is common to arrange with the driver to wait at the entrance on the other side of the scenic area. Lingshan Renjia, about 3 kilometers from Xiaosanxia, is a quaint natural village and a hub for local farmhouse leisure activities. Not only does it offer pleasant scenery, but visitors can also enjoy authentic local roasted whole lamb, making it a gathering point for tourists visiting Shiweiyan.

It is convenient to enter the scenic area from Lingshan Renjia through the Xiaosanxia entrance. Not far into the scenic area, there is a dock where visitors can take a boat to enjoy the scenery along the banks and disembark near the thatched cottage to continue on foot, or walk the entire way along the creek-side trail. In addition to the various shaped pictographic rocks along the way, the clear waters of Jie Yu Tan have beautiful patterns, green like jade.

Walking further to Shi Ting Bu, visitors will see a soft lawn, marking the end of the Xiaosanxia section. Looking at the back of Shiwei Peak from here, it resembles a resting eagle, and tourists can take a break at this point. Near the lawn is a dock where visitors can take a boat to Jiu Gang Tan. These two boat rides within the scenic area are included in the entrance ticket and do not require additional payment.

If not taking the boat, visitors can walk towards the stone arch bridge from the lawn, enjoying the scenery along the mountain waist trails, overlooking the green mountains below, the gradually changing colors of the flowing water, and the small boats on the water, all of which are relaxing to the spirit. At the viewing pavilion on the cliff, there is a small glass platform on the ground where visitors can stand to experience the feeling of ‘suspension’.

Continuing on, some rocks resemble elephants, and others toads, all of which are very interesting. There are signs at good viewing points with pictures outlining what they resemble, and upon closer inspection, they indeed bear a certain resemblance. After walking through the rock collapse-formed inverted stone pile and the pebble-paved health road, visitors will arrive at the Red Army outpost. Here, a rock blocks the path with only a crack, requiring visitors to squeeze through sideways and bend down, being careful not to hit their heads.

Then, upon reaching ‘Fairy’s Field’, a rock with patterns resembling rural field ridges, visitors will be near the exit.
