The Stone Seal Hill Stone Carvings are the general term for the cliff carvings on Stone Seal Hill. They were created by Yan Xun, the owner of Tonggu Stone Seal Mountain Villa during the Northern Song Dynasty. The content of the carvings includes the three religions of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Stone Seal Hill is named because the hills and ridges loop back and forth like seal script. There is the Buddhist Assembly Temple on the mountain. About one mile to the west of the temple is the Buddha Bay (Mother-Child Hall), with 9 niches of carvings. In 2003, three new niches of carvings such as the Longevity King and the cliff inscription ‘Record of the Buddhist Assembly Pagoda’ were newly discovered under the eastern cliff of the Buddhist Assembly Temple. Together with one ‘Buddhist Assembly Pagoda’ in the Buddhist Assembly Temple, the cliff carvings on Stone Seal Hill are collectively numbered 14.
