The Shicang Ancient Residential Complex is located in Dadongba Town, Songyang County. It is composed of six ancient villages, namely Shangchapai, Xiaochapai, Shanbian, Xiazhaijie, Houzhai, and Caizhai. There are more than 30 magnificent ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Now it is listed as a provincial-level historical and cultural protection area. The buildings of the Shicang Ancient Residential Complex are planned according to the theory of geomancy to achieve the environmental effect of integrating human architecture and nature, reflecting the design concept of the unity of man and nature. Each ancient residential building is designed with a symmetrical layout on the central axis and is equipped with a wide courtyard. Each ancient residential building has its own pattern and is not connected to each other, forming a pattern where an ancient residential building is also a small village. It is the traditional style of living together in clans in Chinese feudal society. The layout and decoration of the Shicang Ancient Residential Complex have both common era imprints and their own architectural style characteristics. Each residential building is in the form of a quadrangle courtyard. There are two or three entrances on the central axis. The width of the main building is three, five, seven, or nine bays. The wing rooms have two, four, or six bays. The patio is wide and bright. The upper floor is a corridor-style building with double eaves protruding from the building eaves. All ancient residential buildings have hard mountain roofs, mud walls and green tiles. The inner and outer gate towers all have high horse-head walls. The building facade forms a central axis contour line that is low in the front and high in the back, with flanks guarding on both sides, making the building have a primary and secondary, hidden and exposed, and a sense of spatial order.
