Shichaodong in Huidong is located on the mountainside of Foye Mountain in the south of Pingshan Town, Huidong County. It is famous for its strange stones and ancient temples. Two temples with red walls, green tiles, and carved dragons and painted phoenixes are set off among the green mountains, clear waters, and strange stones, presenting an interesting scene. These two temples are Foye Temple and Guanyin Temple. They were built in the Tianqi period of the Ming Dynasty. What attracts tourists more is the numerous strange stones all over Shichaodong. Those large stones are piled up one on top of the other and seem precarious. Tourists have to climb by holding onto vines and creepers to reach the top of Guanyin Temple built in a large cave. ‘Fairy Reclining Trough’ is a major beautiful sight in Shichaodong. It is composed of three huge stones: one stone lies flat, as flat as a whetstone. Two stones stand on both sides, like a new-style bed. About seven or eight people can lie on the ‘bed’, but it is unstable. When people stand on the stone and shake it, it makes a clang sound, which is astonishing. There is also a ‘Rice-emitting Stone’. There is a small hole in the stone with a trickle of water. Nowadays, many tourists come here to view the mountains and worship at the temples. Seeing the cave and hearing the legends add to their pleasure in touring. The specific business hours and operating status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
