The ancient town is built against the mountains and thrives along the water, exuding an atmosphere of pristine nature everywhere. A Meijiang River divides Shidi into two parts, the old and the new. The architecture in the old town, whether it’s the houses with blue tiles and grey walls or the stilted wooden buildings with upturned eaves, mostly follows the natural contours of the mountains, arranged in an orderly manner as they ascend.
