Shi’e Lake is a scenic area known for its peculiar rocks, beautiful lakes, caverns, narrow paths, and secluded valleys. It is divided into three distinct sections: the Peculiar Rock and Cave Scenic Area, the Bright Lake and Beautiful Water Scenic Area, and the Red Army Historical Site Scenic Area.
The main attraction of the area is Shi’e Rock, which consists of a massive rock and a cave. This natural formation stands out among the rolling hills and gullies, resembling a swan about to take flight from a distance. The large cave, which looks like a swan’s beak feeding, gives Shi’e Rock its name. The cave floor spans over 2500 square meters. During rainfall, a huge waterfall descends from the back of the cave, covering the entire entrance, which is reminiscent of the Water Curtain Cave from the classic ‘Journey to the West’.
Surrounding Shi’e Rock, there are dozens of caves, each with unique shapes and historical tales. Some of these caves were also sites of Red Army activities in the past. To the west of Shi’e Rock, there is a stone beam over a hundred feet long, commonly known as the ‘Fairy Bridge’. This natural wonder stands at over 30 meters high, stretches for several hundred meters, and spans over 10 meters wide between two mountains. The bridge surface is flat, allowing for easy passage for both people and cattle, and is acclaimed as the ‘First Beam of Wu and Yue’.
Behind Shi’e Rock, there is a reservoir of the Jiaolong Temple, which creates an artificial lake. The cold springs and waterfalls exposed in the surrounding valleys and gullies add to the charm of the area, making Shi’e Lake a place of natural beauty and historical significance.Shi’e Lake, nestled amidst undulating hills and complex rock formations in Taoxitan Township, is located just 7 kilometers west of Wuyi County. Its unique topography, characterized by developed fractures, adds to its charm. The scenic area is renowned for its beautiful lake, which boasts clear and pleasant waters that vary with the seasons, earning it the nickname ‘Little Thousand Islands Lake’. Visitors can enjoy the area from January 1st to December 31st, with opening hours from 08:00 to 16:00 daily.
