Shijing Bridge is located in Shijing Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou City. The bridge was built in the 11th year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1831). The entire bridge is 68 meters long and 3.8 meters wide. It has six piers and is a beam stone bridge. There are stone railings on both sides of the bridge. There is a pavilion at each end. The west pavilion has been demolished, while the east pavilion is still there. The pavilion has a hip-and-gable roof and a green glazed tile ridge. At the west end of the bridge, there is an inscription with the chronicle of ‘the year of Xinhai in the Daoguang era’. Shijing Bridge is a historical witness to the invasion of China by other countries in modern history. In September 1856 of the sixth year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty, Britain took the ‘Arrow’ incident as an excuse and dispatched warships to bombard Guangzhou City on the 23rd to start a war. In the first month of the second year, France and Britain formed an invading coalition and bombarded Guangzhou in December. The citizens of Guangzhou organized militia forces to resist the invaders. At that time, Shijing Township here was relatively active in mass armed forces. Now, on the stone railing panels of Shijing Bridge, there are still bullet holes from the shelling by the invading army at that time.

Opening hours: Open all day throughout the year.
