The Shimen Feipu is a hanging waterfall in the Shimen Cave scenic area. It faces northeast and consists of five levels of waterfalls. The source of the Shimen waterfall group is Dongbei Village. The canyon on both sides of the stream is about 300 meters wide at the top and about 50 meters wide at the bottom, with a slope of about 60 degrees and a ‘V’ shape. Its water flow and volume are among the largest of the three waterfalls in East China (Dalongqiu, Shiliang, and Shimen Feipu). Since the source is a forest, it has a strong ability to conserve water sources. Even in winter, the water volume is relatively large, and it can be called a ‘unique wonder in East China’. From the first-level waterfall to the bottom of the fifth-level waterfall pool, the stream flows through a length of about 800 meters, with a total drop of about 180 meters, and a catchment area of 5 square kilometers. The first-level waterfall has a drop of 20 meters and a width of 2 meters. The pool area is about 150 square meters, and the deepest part is about 5 meters. In front of the first-level waterfall, there is an iron cable bridge about 80 meters long connecting the rock walls on both sides of the east and west, turning a natural moat into a thoroughfare. The second-level waterfall has a drop of about 22 meters and a width of about 2.5 meters. The pool area is about 120 square meters, and the deepest part is about 2 meters. The third-level waterfall has a drop of about 7.5 meters and a width of about 1.5 meters. The pool area is about 50 square meters, and the depth is about 1 meter. The fourth-level waterfall has a drop of about 10 meters. The pool area is about 20 square meters, and the deepest part is about 2 meters. The fifth-level waterfall is at the end of the Shimen Cave. The waterfall pours down directly from the overhanging cliff with a width of about 5 meters and a height of 112.5 meters, like a black dragon and a white snake dancing. The pool under the waterfall is also called Jiyin Pool. The area is about 1500 square meters, and the deepest part is about 10 meters. Fish swim in the pool, and the water is crystal clear. In order to maintain the water flow of the waterfall, a reservoir with a storage capacity of 160,000 cubic meters was built in Dongbei Village upstream of the first-level waterfall in 2002. The waterfall changes little with the seasons, but the rainy season is the more suitable period for viewing waterfalls. The Shimen Feipu is of bluish-gray limestone lithology and the stone is hard. The formation and development of the waterfall are related to geological faults. The mountain body is controlled by tensile fault zones. Faults occur due to mutual repulsion and fractures. Over time, under the downward erosion of flowing water, the water flows down along the fault plane, leading to the formation of the waterfall. And it continuously impacts the surface under the waterfall. Surface runoff converges and pours down in cliff and canyon areas with large terrain drops, forming many magnificent waterfalls.
