Shipaotai Park

Shipaotai Park is located in a bustling area on the north bank of Rongjiang River in Shantou City. It is a park planned with Qilu Fort as the core scenic spot. It is also a comprehensive leisure park suitable for tourists’ entertainment and fitness. Qilu Fort was built in 1874 (the thirteenth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty) and was completed around 1879. At that time, it cost 80,000 silver dollars and has a history of more than 130 years.

The main body of the park is a circular castle building, echoing the fort on Su’an Mountain on the other side. The two forts tightly control the entrance and exit of Shantou Bay. The geographical location is strategic and it is the main coastal defense building in eastern Guangdong during the Qing Dynasty. The fort is mainly built with shell lime and sand, and the fort gate and gun alley are all built with granite blocks, so it is commonly known as ‘Shipaotai’.

Opening hours: open all day throughout the year.
