Shuangquan Temple was initiated and built by the Shantou Buddhist Association, and funded by villagers. During the land preparation for building the temple, two clear springs were accidentally unearthed, which are respectively called Yuquan Spring and Huanquan Spring. The eminent monk Shi Dingchi named it Shuangquan Temple because of the springs.
