Shuangquan Zen Temple is located at the northeast foot of Xiangwang Peak, Putuo Mountain, to the west of Qianbu Sand. It was built by the monk Zhenjing during the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli period. It was renovated by the fourteenth-generation descendant Guangxin during the Qing Dynasty’s Kangxi period. During the Guangxu period, the monk Yuanzong restored it again. In 1923, the monk Guangyin expanded the temple.

The temple complex consists of 73 halls. It is said that shortly after the completion of this hermitage, during the opening of the Avatamsaka Sutra, believers from all directions came to worship. Due to the large number of people and the lack of water, the monks prayed diligently, and soon two springs emerged from the rocks beside the hall. The water quality was excellent, clear and sweet, which was considered miraculous, and people marveled at the divine wonders of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.

Therefore, this hermitage is called ‘Shuangquan Hermitage’. The opening hours and business status are subject to the actual opening conditions of the day.
