In Luogang on the eastern outskirts of Guangzhou, there are many villages scattered. Most of the villagers are surnamed Zhong. Shuixi Village in the west of Luogang is one of them. The villagers use ‘one-word street and rake alley’ to describe the architectural layout of the ancient village. After bypassing the big kapok tree at the entrance of the village, one steps onto the ‘one-word street’ of the ancient village. It is two or three meters wide and runs from east to west. From the village head to the end of the village, it connects more than a dozen ancestral halls on the left and three ponds opposite the ancestral halls on the right. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on the day.
