Shunan Bamboo Sea

The Shunan Bamboo Sea is truly a ‘sea of bamboos’. The continuous green bamboos cover more than twenty majestic ridges and more than five hundred peaks. It is known as one of the four wonders in southern Sichuan together with dinosaurs, stone forests and hanging coffins. There are more than fifty kinds of bamboos growing here. In addition to the common Nanzhu bamboo, Shuizhu bamboo and Cizhu bamboo, there are also rare bamboo species such as Zizhu bamboo, Renmian bamboo and Yuanyang bamboo.

Generally, visiting the scenic area starts from the west gate of the scenic area in Wanling Town. After entering the gate, the first thing you see is the Changning Bamboo Sea Museum. There are some exquisitely crafted bamboo products inside, which are worth a stop to see. Then board the cableway and overlook the panoramic view of the bamboo sea from the cableway for a wider view. The end of the cableway can reach scenic spots such as the Guanhai Tower and the Emerald Corridor at the core of the bamboo sea scenic area.

The Guanhai Tower has six floors. Standing on the tower and looking down at the bamboo sea, thousands of mountains and ridges are all in sight. There is a small square below the Guanhai Tower, and there are many farmhouses around providing catering and accommodation. When tired from walking, you can take a rest here and taste the famous ‘all-bamboo banquet’ local specialty, including bamboo shoots, bamboo fungus, etc.
