Signal Hill Park

Signal Hill Park is located in the heart of Qingdao City and is named after the signal station built on the mountain top to guide ships. At an elevation of 98 meters, the three red-domed mushroom-like buildings on the summit are particularly conspicuous, with the tallest being the revolving observation tower, where you can enjoy a 360-degree view of Qingdao’s picturesque scenery, characterized by its red-tiled buildings amidst green trees, and the blue sea and sky.

Upon entering the scenic area, instead of rushing to the revolving observation tower on high, you may first visit the Wave-Chasing Observation Deck on the southern slope, just below the Lianxin Bridge, which is an excellent spot for photographing the southern German-style building, the Guesthouse. On the Lianxin Bridge, red heart-shaped locks hang from the green railings, where couples can purchase a lock to symbolize their eternal vows on Signal Hill.

It is said that walking hand-in-hand across the bridge with friends, companions, or family can bring blessings, and for those alone, holding their own hand can be just as fulfilling! Further ahead, you can explore attractions such as the Wulongtan Fountain, surrounded by four smaller dragons encircling a larger dragon, corresponding to Signal Hill’s other name, Wulong Mountain, due to the presence of five roads around the mountain with the character ‘dragon’ in their names: Longjiang Road, Longhua Road, Longkou Road, Longshan Road, and Fulong Road.

Finally, at the top of the mountain, the revolving observation tower features colorful murals depicting the history of communication development. Ascending to the observation deck provides a stunning view of the German-style buildings with red tiles and yellow walls, nestled among greenery. Looking southwest, the green roof of the Christian church stands out among a sea of red roofs, with the Zhan Bridge and the small Qingdao Island facing each other across the sea; looking southeast, the Guesthouse is nearby, with the Xiaoyushan Park and the Lanchao Pavilion on the summit in the distance; looking east, you can see the Qingdao TV Tower on Taiping Mountain.

The Guesthouse, located at the southern foot of Signal Hill, can be visited together. Operating hours are from April 1st to October 31st from 06:00 to 20:30; from November 1st to March 31st from 06:00 to 20:00. The revolving observation tower is open from 08:00 to 17:00, with ticket sales ending at 16:30. A must-see tip is to choose a sunny day to climb Signal Hill for better views of the cityscape of Qingdao.
