The reservoir was始建于 in August 1958 and completed in December 1971. The total storage capacity is 3.34 million cubic meters. The mainstream length is 8 kilometers. It belongs to a small (Type I) reservoir. The dam type is a sand-shell clay wall dam.
In June 1973, Yaoling Reservoir was started to be constructed upstream. It was completed in October 1988. The total storage capacity is 1.65 million cubic meters. The mainstream length is 8.1 kilometers. It also belongs to a small (Type I) reservoir.
Surrounded by green mountains, the reservoir has beautiful scenery and is a good place for fishing, leisure and sightseeing. Especially when matched with Yaoling Reservoir, it forms a unique ‘reservoir within a reservoir’ scene. Every year during the flood season and plum rain season, there is smoke curling and the water is sparkling. After heavy rain, the sluice gate releases water and a waterfall hangs horizontally. Especially on the Yaoling stone dam, the overflowing water waves follow the upturned dam body and soar into the air and flow down vertically, which is extremely spectacular.
