The Songjing Well was built in the first year of Jingyan in the Southern Song Dynasty (1276). To avoid being pursued by the Yuan army, Lu Xiufu, a scholar of the Ministry of Rites at that time, and Zhang Shizhong, a general, escorted the young emperor of the Song Dynasty to retreat via Nan’ao and stationed in Aoqian Village. They dug three Songjing Wells named ‘Dragon Well’, ‘Tiger Well’, and ‘Horse Well’ for the emperor, ministers, and soldiers and horses to drink. In front of the wells are strange rocks, beaches, small islets, and the sea. The miraculous thing about these wells is that although they are located on the beach and are often submerged by the tide, after the tide recedes, the well water is not salty and still sweet and refreshing. The Songjing Well was once submerged by the sea but reappeared in the Qing Dynasty and has been appearing and disappearing over the years. Its water is fresh and light, and it can be stored for a long time without spoiling. It is one of the wonders of Nan’ao. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:00 to 18:00. From 08:00 to 18:00, admission stops at 17:30.
