The Sound Art Museum was prepared and constructed in 2020. On March 29, 2023, it obtained the qualification of a Beijing-type museum certified by the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau. On May 3, it was listed as the Sound Art Museum of the Beijing Aid to Xinjiang National Unity and Progress Practice Center. It is organized by the Beijing Songzhuang Art Development Foundation and is located in China’s Songzhuang Art District, on the innovative development axis of Beijing’s sub-center.


The museum is dedicated to exploring, collecting, protecting, and disseminating sound works. It is the first museum dedicated to sound art. The museum covers an area of 8,200 square meters, and the exhibition space area is 6,400 square meters. It is composed of the ‘Sound Terminal’ (permanent exhibition), ‘Sound Art Space’ (thematic exhibition hall), ‘Ruogu Tower’ (sound experiment project base), and ‘Sound Life Center’ (Sound of Childhood, sound therapy experience room, sound library archive, multi-functional listening area, artist residency center, pigeon whistle base).


The ‘Sound Terminal’ is a permanent exhibition area, with six themed units: ‘Old Beijing Sound Life’, ‘Natural Sound State’, ‘Voice’, ‘Music’, ‘What is Sound’, and ‘Sound and Emotion’. The ‘Sound Art Space’ is based on contemporary art. Relevant artists and musicians are regularly invited to create exclusive sound works according to the spatial layout.



Opening hours: Open from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year from 10:00 to 17:00; closed all day on Monday throughout the year; open from 10:00 to 17:00 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Tomb Sweeping Day, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.
