Special Edition of ‘Wing Chun’ Ballet at Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theatre, Hong Kong, China

The ballet ‘Wing Chun’ is written by Feng Shuangbai, the chairman of the Chinese Dancers Association, and co-directed by the popular choreographers Han Zhen and Zhou Lia. Performed by the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theatre, the story takes the movie ‘Wing Chun’ filmed by a Shenzhen film crew in the 20th century as its starting point, paralleling the ‘off-screen’ ‘Wing Chun’ crew with the ‘on-screen’ Ip Man’s struggle in Hong Kong. The production combines martial arts moves with classical and modern dance, offering the audience a visual feast. This special edition incorporates a Hong Kong behind-the-scenes team and artists, adding new elements to the program. It includes a brand-new theme song ‘Wing Chun’ produced, composed, and sung by the renowned local singer Lam Cheuk-wing, with lyrics by Chan Siu-kei; the Hong Kong-born conductor Feng Jiahua will lead the local ensemble The Symphonic Pops for live accompaniment, and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts graduate Huang Danyang will also participate in the performance. The show is open from November 22nd to 24th, Friday to Sunday, with performance times and duration subject to the venue.
