The Mogao Grottoes, commonly known as the Thousand Buddha Caves, are located in Dunhuang at the western end of the Hexi Corridor. It was built in the Former Qin period of the Sixteen Kingdoms. After being constructed in successive dynasties such as the Sixteen Kingdoms, Northern Dynasties, Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, Western Xia, and Yuan, it has formed a huge scale. There are 735 caves, 45,000 square meters of murals, and 2,415 clay-colored sculptures. It is a relatively large-scale and richly-contented Buddhist art site in the world. Opening hours: Open all year round from 10:30 to 18:30.
