St. Anthony’s Church is one of the three oldest churches in Macau. It was built around 1558 to 1560. Most of the early churches in Macau underwent the baptism of fire, and St. Anthony’s Church is no exception. The church we see today is on a scale after renovation in 1930. St. Anthony enshrined in the church is regarded as the master of marriage. On the stone tablet in front of the church is engraved “He is the patron saint of marriage worshiped by Catholics”. Many believers choose to hold weddings in this church. Since brides will hold flowers in custom, St. Anthony’s Church is also known as the Church of Flowers. The comfortable and leisureful Park of Camoes is just opposite St. Anthony’s Church. Many residents take a walk here every day. According to legend, the famous Portuguese poet Camoes once wrote the immortal epic “The Soul of Portugal” here, making the park filled with a Portuguese sentiment. Next to it is the Protestant Cemetery, where many famous people who came to China are buried, such as the British painter George Chinnery and Robert Morrison, the first Christian missionary to translate the Bible into Chinese. The opening hours are subject to the opening situation on the day.
