Queen’s Statue Square is located in Central. It is a public square with a long history. Queen’s Statue Square is surrounded by high-rise buildings such as HSBC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Bank of China, Prince’s Building, and Mandarin Oriental Hotel. There is also the Legislative Council Building nearby. It is a famous square in Hong Kong. Queen’s Statue Square is named after the bronze statue of Queen Victoria. The bronze statue was cast to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. The queen’s bronze statue was originally placed in this square. It was removed by the Japanese army during World War II. After the war, when the queen’s bronze statue was shipped back, it is now placed in Victoria Park. Therefore, there is no queen’s statue in Queen’s Statue Square today. Instead, there is a statue of Thomas Jackson (Sir Jackson), the general manager of HSBC. Since there are many fountains and seats here on the square, many Filipino domestic helpers will gather here every Sunday. Many people come here to work illegally. In addition, every December, the Queen’s Statue Square will hold the Christmas Wonderland. The square is modeled after Santa Claus Town in Finland, Northern Europe. There are many Christmas-related decorations and a 35-meter-high outdoor Christmas tree, which is very spectacular.
