Xujia Mountain Village is a natural village under Xumin administrative village in Chayuan Township (there are also four natural villages: Minhutian, Xu Family, Yichangping, and Xiao’an). It is located in the east of Ninghai County and the west of Chayuan Township, 13.5 kilometers away from the county seat. The average altitude is about 200 meters. The whole village has 277 households and a total population of 720 people. Most of the labor force in the village goes out to work. The permanent population living in the village is about 220 people. The village area is 4718 mu. The existing cultivated land area is 821 mu, and the forest area is 3008 mu. According to the village genealogy records, in the late Southern Song Dynasty, Ye Daqing and his son, descendants of Ye Mengding, settled here to avoid chaos from Dongcang. It has a history of more than 700 years. Xujia Mountain is located on the top of the mountain. There are mountains all around. The vegetation is well protected. The vegetation is lush. The ancient maples are towering. The green bamboos are graceful. The stone scenery is secluded. The smoke from kitchen chimneys curls up. The environment is quiet. Entering Xujia Mountain is like entering a paradise. The major characteristic of Xujia Mountain is its primitive and wild beauty. Houses seldom use modern materials such as reinforced concrete. Most of the houses in the whole village are stone houses. The wall materials of stone houses are piled up with black basalt (locally known as ‘copper plate stone’). Xujia Mountain is an ancient stone village with a large existing building complex and relatively complete preservation in Ningbo City. It is also a model of mountain stone house building communities along the coast of eastern Zhejiang. It can be called the kingdom of stones. This village not only preserves complete combined resources such as stone houses, stone courtyards, stone walls, stone alleys, stone bridges, stone roads, and stone benches, but also continues traditional lifestyles, such as ox plowing, making sweet potato flour, making sweet potato liquor, pounding rice cakes, and making bamboo weaving. The tourism resources of Xujia Mountain Village are divided into four blocks: ancient stone village, tableland scenery, geological park, and farming inheritance.
