Xiabing Cave

The Xiabing Cave is located in the primeval forest of the Hongchiba alpine pasture in the upper reaches of the Bengxi River and Daning River. It is called the Xiabing Cave because it ‘melts in winter and spring and freezes in summer’. It can be regarded as a wonder of caves in the world. The entrance of the cave is at an altitude of 2200 meters. The stratum where the cave is located is Triassic limestone. The strata are inclined at 195 degrees and the dip angle is 30 degrees. The entrance faces east and is triangular, 5 meters high and 10 meters wide at the bottom. The cave is 40 meters long, 20 meters high and 50 meters wide at the bottom. The bottom of the cave is lower than the entrance. The Xiabing Cave has the characteristic of’melting in winter and spring and freezing in summer’. In summer, outside the cave, the trees are shady and various azaleas are in full bloom. However, inside the cave is a world of ice, full of glaciers and in various postures. When it is the coldest winter, inside the cave, the ice melts and the water is warm with a trickle, which is better than a hot spring. This phenomenon is still a mystery. The amazing part of the cave is the ice waterfalls on the four walls of the cave. Rows and rows, like a burst of the Milky Way, are magnificent; like a turbulent torrent, rushing down; like a flying ice waterfall, flowing down. Standing among them, one can hear the sound, which is thrilling and amazing!
