In 94 BC, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, Liu Che, led his civil and military officials on an eastern tour to Chengshan Head. He was captivated by the spectacular sunrise at Chengshan Head, known as ‘Chengshan Head Sunrise’. Consequently, he ordered the construction of the Sun Worshipping Platform, the Expansion of the Sun God Temple, to express gratitude and commemorate the event with the ‘Red Goose Song’. Subsequent generations of emperors also paid homage to the sun at Chengshan Head. The site is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
