The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is located next to the Global Hotel at No. 1, Avenida de Cinco de Outubro. It is a three-story Moorish building. The entire building is elegant and solemn with a beautiful appearance. It is surrounded by a low wall. On the left, there is a small garden. Mr. Sun liked to sit here. Now, there stands a full-body bronze statue of Mr. Sun and the four characters ‘For the Benefit of All’.
The interior decoration of the hall retains its original appearance. The furnishings are all cultural relics and furniture used by Mr. Sun when he was the grand marshal in Guangzhou. In addition, there are some authentic works and precious photos of Mr. Sun during his lifetime. Photos of Mr. Sun and revolutionary predecessors are also collected here. The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was built in 1918 as the residence of Mr. Sun’s family. Later, it was affected by the explosion of the powder magazine of the nearby governor’s residence and was rebuilt in 1930. After the passing of Mr. Sun’s first wife, Lu Muzhen, the former residence was renamed its current name in 1958. Opening hours: Open all year round. Mondays, Wednesdays to Sundays, 10:00 – 17:00.
