Dongpo of West Lake, the inaugural performance of Sung-style aesthetics, explores the life experiences of Su Dongpo during his two tenures as an official in Hangzhou. His initiatives, including river dredging, well digging, West Lake regulation, and the construction of Su Causeway, had a significant impact on the city of Hangzhou.
The play is a unique fusion of reality and illusion, blending truth with fantasy. It features gentle and enduring melodies complemented by soft and expressive dance steps. This not only offers a profound interpretation of Dongpo’s poetry but also pays a graceful tribute to the elegance of Sung-style aesthetics.
