Suzhou Street in the Summer Palace is located in the northwest suburbs of Beijing. It is a commercial street modeled after the water towns of the Jiangnan region, built along the banks of the back lake. Constructed during the Qianlong period, it was designed to imitate the water towns of southern China and served as a water street for the emperors and empresses of the Qing Dynasty to stroll and shop.

The street spans over three hundred meters in length, with a small river running through the middle, flanked by tea houses, restaurants, banks, pharmacies, pawnshops, silk and cloth shops, and printing bureaus. Visitors to the Summer Palace can shop along the banks or take a small boat, fully immersing themselves in the rich and ancient pleasure of a tourist experience. The street is open all year round, accessible 24/7, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening conditions.
