Swan Lake in Rongcheng was a strategic defense location during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Due to sediment accumulation, the harbor gradually transformed into a semi-enclosed oval lagoon. The lake rarely freezes, and it teems with a multitude of small fish, shrimp, and plankton, making it an ideal habitat for swans during winter. From November to April each year, tens of thousands of swans and several other species such as wild ducks and geese migrate from Siberia and Inner Mongolia to roost and overwinter here. This phenomenon has earned it the accolade of ‘The Oriental Swan Kingdom’ from scholars and experts worldwide. The lake boasts clear and pristine waters, pure golden beaches, and a picturesque landscape with a pleasant climate. A 100-meter-wide sandbar separates the lake from the sea, creating a natural ten-thousand-meter seawater bathing and sand bathing area. It is open to the public all year round, 24 hours a day.
